Karen Bogisch grew up in Seguin, Texas, and received her B.A. degree, summa cum laude, in economics, from Texas Lutheran College in 1988, where she was inducted into the Alpha Chi honor society and served as an intern for the United States Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Anti-trust, Monopolies and Business Rights in 1987. Karen graduated from Boston College Law School cum laude in 1991 and worked for a Massachusetts law firm before returning to Texas in 1994. In 1998, Karen and J. Robert (Bob) Goldsmith, Jr. formed Goldsmith & Bogisch and were partners for twenty years. At G&B, Karen supervised the firm’s oil and gas title examination section as well as worked on litigation and transactional projects. In her current law practice, Karen handles a variety of matters for her clients, including negotiating and drafting oil and gas leases, easements, surface use agreements, surface use waivers, solar ground leases, and other agreements related to oil, gas, solar and other energy matters. Karen also provides advice regarding title issues, royalty payment disputes, and other property-related matters and has over 20-years’ experience examining title to real property in Texas. Karen is admitted to practice before state courts in Texas and Massachusetts and before Federal courts in the Western District of Texas.
Karen has authored or co-authored a number of published papers and has lectured on title issues and title examination, easements, and other real property and energy issues at legal seminars and for professional groups:
Karen is active in the Austin community, belonging to the Rotary Club of Austin – North by Northeast and the Austin Yacht Club. Karen has been a Rotarian for over 25 years and was inducted into the Rotary District 5870 Roll of Fame in 2013. At the Rotary Club of Austin – North by Northeast, she is the 2022-23 club secretary and the long-time editor of its newsletter. Karen is an active participant in organized sailboat racing at the Austin Yacht Club, serving as the club secretary for 2018 and 2019, and has also served on the Permanent Race Committee and the Membership Committee. Karen is a member of the Development Board at her alma mater, Texas Lutheran University, and has started a scholarship there in her name. Her involvement in the local bar includes performing for 20 years in Bar & Grill, a benefit show sponsored by the Austin Bar Association and the Austin Young Lawyers Association as a fundraiser for legal services for the poor and other charitable causes. She is a member of the Oil Gas and Mineral Law section of the Austin Bar Association, and in 2001-2002 was the Chairperson of that section. She is also a member of the Oil, Gas and Energy Resources Law Section of the Sate Bar of Texas.
